Nadelburgmuseum

The Archive

The museum archive is housed in these old German boxes.

Only a portion of the actual collection is on display, primarily visual material. The museum's archive contains dozens of files by Franz Gehrer, in which he archived everything about the town and the Nadelburg: photographs, plans, newspapers, documents, and much more. He also meticulously recorded daily events, supplemented reports, and made notes on construction work in the settlement. Combined with a multitude of unpublished documents and photos, this is a true treasure trove, from which new exhibits continually emerge. For example, many students have completed their diploma theses here, or reports for various magazines have been written, or even new museum images have been created. Leafing through these folders today is like a journey through time through the history of Lichtenwörth, and it is often depressing to realize how many historically valuable buildings have been demolished in the recent past, often without the consent of the Federal Monuments Office. Most of these folders are not organized by topic; viewing them is generally possible, but incredibly time-consuming. Mr. Gehrer leafed through these folders with visitors to the Nadelburg, even after he had already opened his museum space in 1984. Since Gehrer's death in 1997, these folders have been supplemented, but Gehrer's inventory has not changed.
